What's the next Summer Family Musical?

We'll tell you as soon as we make a decision

Meanwhile, here are the answers to a few frequently asked questions about our Summer Family Musical!  We hope to see your family real soon!

Production Specifics

The Summer Family Musical performs on Lexington Children’s Theatre’s Main Stage. Jeremy Kisling usually directs the production. The creative team including choreographer, music director, scenery and lighting designers is usually announced in late April. The title of the show is usually announced in mid to late March, once rights have been secured.

Age requirements
Actors ages 9 to 99 are encouraged to audition. We hope to cast the show age appropriately. You need not have previous experience with LCT. We will use some actors younger than 9 years old, but they will be family members of those already cast. Please indicate on your audition form if you have a child or sibling younger than 9 that would like to participate.

Audition Prep Class

Traditionally held three Thursdays in May, this class gives you the opportunity to learn some of the songs and dances from the show.

Audition dates

Auditions are traditionally the first Saturday and Sunday in June from 1 to 5 PM.

Auditionees must plan on attending the entire audition time frame. We split all auditionees into three groups and then cycle you through dance, singing and acting audition rooms. That gives you an hour and 20 minutes in each area which is never enough time! You need to be sure to arrange an audition appointment.

Arranging your audition appointment
After May 1 you'll call 254-4546 ext 310 and leave the following information.  (Please speak slowly and clearly, we are writing down what you say.)

Your name
Your age
The day you will attend
a phone number to contact you
(Just in case there is a problem.)

It's that easy. No one will call you back to confirm your appointment, simply mark it on your calendar and we'll see you here in the building either Saturday or Sunday.

Rehearsal schedule

Since this is a family production it rehearses weekday evenings and weekend afternoons. Not every character is called every night though the director may work every night. Rehearsals usually begin the second week of June, pause briefly for the 4th of July festivities, then resume on a regular schedule. A detailed rehearsal schedule is provided after casting.

Performance dates

Traditionally the first weekend in August. Running Thursday through Sunday evenings with matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Read the Script Before You Audition

Once a title is selected a perusal script is available at the reception desk on the first floor of our building. Due to copyright restrictions scripts may not leave the building. Please feel free to set aside an hour or two to sit in the lobby -- find out what you might be working on BEFORE auditions!

The lobby is open to the public: 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday.
